I Love the Fair

I love the fair. It makes me happy. You get to run around and ride rides - well, I only ride the Ferris Wheel because I think the others are death traps, but stay with me - say hi to farm animals, and eat food that is singularly ridiculous in it's deliciousness. All of these things make the time you spend at the fair feel a little bit larger, a little bit grander, than real life. That's the way I felt about so many things when I was a kid.  Everything was larger than I was. Maybe that's why I love the fair so much. It offers me an opportunity to feel like a kid again, even if only for a while.

There are so many responsibilities that come with age that no one prepares you for. How do I get it all done? How do I not let anyone down? How do I pick myself up when I just want to hide under the covers? In those moments you long for the days when you had no cares and no deadlines, no worries and no bad memories. You long to be a kid again.

My trusty smartphone was always in my hand during the rainy, muddy afternoon I spent at the Virginia State Fair a couple weeks ago - a sure sign I'm not actually a kid anymore - but being at the fair did bring back all of those feelings I love that provide a brief respite from adulthood. Did I mention I got a pretzel dog with spicy mustard? Delish.
