It's Friday, Love

{ Fabulous scallops at The Daily Kitchen and Bar }

Last weekend wasn't the recharge I had hoped for unfortunately. It was filled with memories of Memorial Days past, a funeral and a reality check. Maybe this weekend I'll get a do-over:). Can we also put a call in to whoever decided it was going to be like a thousand degrees this week and tell them we object?!! See ya Monday!

Oooppps....I almost forgot! I'm extremely excited to announce the winner of the Shine Blow Dry Bar giveaway is Miranda Terry-Clark! I'm bending the rules a little bit because she didn't actually leave a comment, her husband did. But when you read it I think you'll agree that not only does she have a wonderfully supportive husband, she also really deserves a fabulous blow out! Thank you to everyone who participated. Stay tuned for the next great giveaway!

Congratulations Miranda!

How do you shine?

How about "How does my wife shine?" My beautiful wife shines everyday in so many ways. From the moment she gets up she is my rock star hero. Working a 60+ hour week managing dozens of people, to transitioning every night to be with the most important people in her life, her family. She is the most patient, caring, giving, loving mother to our two beautiful children. She takes time out of her schedule to volunteer as "class mom" for our daughters pre-school class and finds a way to be at every event. She is forever more helping family and friends find answers and solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems. She loves unconditionally, is an awesome friend, and is my rock. My wife "shines" everyday and I am proud to call myself her husband. Love you baby!

{ We said goodbye to Randy this week. I can still hear your booming laugh sir. You will be missed! }

Remember to breath....
Watch David for when to come in...this is the banjo's song too...
This woman is desperate, she's about to lose the man she loves.....
They have to feel that from the first note....

All of this flashes through my mind as I step up to the microphone and sing, A cappella, the first few notes of Dolly Parton's Jolene. I have one chance to get it right. One shot to nail the beginning or the whole song falls apart. It requires preparation, an ounce of abandon and a dash of luck. But none of it can happen unless I look and feel my best.

Whether you're on stage or walking into a boardroom, of which I do both, I think every woman experiences moments like this. The stakes are high, you're exhausted and yet you have to find it within yourself to get it done. Your confidence and savvy have been told by the stage manager it's two minutes to curtain. It's your time to shine.

Shine Blow Dry Bar is now one of my secret weapons when I need a little extra help to do just that. I've been patiently waiting for RVA to get it's very own mecca for fabulous blowouts and makeup design so when I heard Shine was opening I was ecstatic! Maybe it's a job interview, maybe it's a dinner with someone special, heck..... maybe it's just a Wednesday and you need a little pick-me-up. Shine can help you find that little something extra so that the amazing woman inside can shine through.

In addition to their regular services, which you can find out more about here, they also offer fabulous head shot packages designed for the modern woman who wants to elevate her social media brand. Their next date is June 7th so be sure to book soon.

On a recent visit I wanted a little extra sparkle for a show at the RVA Creativity Awards, so I threw myself into the team's hands. Knowing that I felt great meant I could focus on singing and making sure the crowd enjoyed the show, not whether my lipstick was fading. Here's a few pics of the process I hope you enjoy them. Thank you to the wonderful ladies who did my hair and makeup and Shine's owner extraordinaire, Allison Bridges!

I'm even more excited to be offering you, my lovely readers, a chance to shine as well. In the comment section below answer the question "How do you shine?". The best answer will win a free blowout from Shine Blow Dry Bar! Please leave your full name and email in the comment section as well. You have till this Friday at 10am to enter and the winner will be announced on this Friday's post. Good luck!

It's Friday, Love

{ A new headshot courtesy of the fabulous Shine Blow Dry Bar and Megan Garrison Photography }

I need to sleep for a month. Other than that it's been a pretty great week:). This weekend I'm hoping for a little recharge time and tackling my ridiculous house to-do list. It feels like time to clean. Time to throw some things out. Time to shed some dead weight. My pack has been getting a little heavy lately. That's a metaphor, I don't actually carry around a backpack.

Anyhoo, have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I'll be back on Tuesday with a really fun post and......drum roll amazing giveaway. See you then!

Trail Days

The band had an amazing weekend of shows in Damascus for Trail Days Festival 2015. This wonderful festival celebrates the Appalachian Trail, which literally runs through the middle of town. We had such a great time in the park playing on the main festival stage and then later that night at Damascus Brewery. The people we met and the spirit of the trail are also things that will stay with us always. Hope to be back next year!
