A River Runs Through It

The river is like life. It's beautiful and vast. Familiar, but scary. Comforting, yet overwhelming. Seemingly never-ending and even monotonous at times, until it makes a turn one day and that small, constant river becomes an ocean. The ocean is exciting and makes you feel alive. But waves can crash over you and you find yourself tumbling through space, not able to figure out which way the surface is to even begin to start swimming for it.

Sorry, just a couple more sentences of Deepak Chopra and then I'll quit I promise:).

See I've been in my boat making a pretty good go of it these past couple years so I'm a confident sailor. But there are so many things on the ocean that are out of my control no matter how much I wish for them. So I row. I row and hope that favorable winds will be on the horizon one day.

Oh god...that's too much Chopra even for me! Well that one was a bit more Whitman-esqe. Either way I'll stop now.

So what does any of this have to do with with anything? Well, my good friend Katie and her husband Chris were nice enough to have me down to their place at the river a couple weeks ago and it was really great timing. I needed to get out of town. I needed a distraction. I needed to think. There's no better place for that than.....you guessed it...the river. These pics are from that weekend (hope you enjoy) and I can't thank them enough for their hospitality.

Ok, one more Chopra moment....sorry. PS I say sorry too much (note to self to work on that).

I hope that even though my little boat is on the big, bad scary ocean the river will still be with me and perhaps even show me the way. I can use all the help I can get. It's exhausting rowing by yourself.
